Wowed by New School!12.00.00am GMT Fri 5th Mar 2010
Local Assembly Member for South East Wales, Welsh Liberal Democrat Michael German, was 'wowed' when he visited a new primary school in Newport this morning. Michael German visited the school students of the new Glan Usk Primary School in St. Julian's Newport which replaced the old Durham Road Infant's and Junior's school just up the road. He was joined by Ed Townsend, Deputy Leader of Newport City Council and in whose ward the school is located. Mr. German and Mr. Townsend were given a tour of the school by the Head teacher Mr. Beecher and pupils. Afterwards they were grilled by the School Council on a wide variety of topics. "What a fantastic new school," Mr. German, "the facilities are world class and every students and teacher had nothing but praise for the buildings and facilities. The children have settled in very fast into their new surrounds and there was a real sense of calm and learning going on in every nook and cranny." Ed Townsend added, "It took a long time and many years of hard work to finally realise the new school. It is a terrific transformation from the outdated buildings and cramped conditions into a modern place of learning. The new school is fast becoming a part of the local community, with local groups and clubs making use of the community rooms and shared facilities. The pupils were beaming with pride for their new school. They're right to be very proud."
