Comment on affordable housing legislation

Commenting on reports that the First Minister is expected to agree with the Welsh Affairs Committee's recommendation to narrow a Welsh Assembly power bid, Mike German, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said:

"We now know which end of the M4 runs the Labour party in Wales. Rhodri Morgan has caved-in on this housing LCO issue for the sake of peace with his Labour colleagues in London, just like he did with the Richard Commission. What kind of precedent does this set?

"The people of Wales through their democratically elected Assembly decided that they want the powers to suspend the right to buy in hot spots in Wales on sparing occasions. When the chips are down, Labour has given in.

"When I raised the issue of the stability of the Labour-Plaid Government with the First Minister in the Siambr on Tuesday, he was clearly ruffled. Now we know why.

"The writing is now on the wall for Plaid Cymru, they've been duped. They've been taken for a ride, whilst propping up the same old lame duck Labour administration. The people of Wales deserve better."
