Commenting on the appointment of economist Gerald Holtham to lead the study in to how Wales is funded, Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Mike German said:

"I'm pleased the government has made this appointment and that work on this important project is finally coming in to focus. There has already been a long delay in starting the work of this Commission, which was originally proposed by the Welsh Liberal Democrats - and supported by all parties - in June 2007, but has been sat on by the government since then. It is vital that there are no more halts in the process, and that the Holtham Commission can complete its work according to the timetable set out today."

Notes:

The Welsh Liberal Democrat debate where all parties supported the creation of a commission to review funding and finances took place on June 20, 2007
