Congratulations to Wales' second Lib Dem council leader

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 23rd Jun 2004

Welsh Liberal Democrats are celebrating the election of their second council leader today, with councillor Chris Holley taking charge of Swansea Council this morning.

He follows in the footsteps of Cheryl Green who became leader of Bridgend County Borough Council yesterday.

Mike German, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly leader said: "I congratulate Chris Holley on becoming the party's first male council leader in Wales. I wish him and the new council well for the next four years. Chris is the second Welsh Liberal Democrat to lead a Welsh Unitary Authority, but I am sure he will not be the last.

"Welsh Liberal Democrats believe passionately in local government and its ability to improve the quality of people's lives. The people of Swansea will be the see for themselves the benefits of a council led by Liberal Democrat councillors, committed to openness and keeping people informed."
