Success of Coffee Morning is Music to Mike's Ears

12.00.00am GMT Mon 17th Jan 2005

This week Welsh Liberal Democrat Michael German attended a coffee morning, which was held in aid of St Tydfil's Well Church (Quar) Organ Appeal.

This was the second such event organised by the church, which is hoping to raise enough money to buy a new organ. Mike, who is a Patron of the Appeal, said, "The way the members of the church have rallied around to raise money for the new organ is fantastic. As a former music teacher, I can understand why the organ is so important to them. I often play the organ for my local church and as a result I believe that musical accompaniment makes all the difference during a Sunday service. "

Organist, David Lewis, who has been in charge of the fund raising, showed Mike the current organ and even let him play a few chords! David said, "We really do need to replace our organ. It is very old and there are some keys that don't work anymore."

As well as discussing the virtues of modern organs, Mike spent two hours talking to local people and enjoyed several cups of coffee.

Reverend Chris Stone said, "We are very pleased with the success of the coffee morning. David Lewis has worked really hard to raise the funds and we are on target to get our new organ."
